Mattress Cleaning

Cleaning your mattress isn’t something people think about regularly, but considering the fact that you probably spend six, seven or eight hours on it every night. During that time, dust, dead skin cells, sweat and oil from your body can make their way onto your mattress and can cause yellow stains.

This environment is also a big magnet for dust mites. Whether you suffer from allergies or not, it’s definitely a good idea to clean your mattress once in a while. Good Housekeeping recommends cleaning your mattress on a regular basis. If you clean your mattress every few months it will keep the bed fresh and dust-free, stain-free, and odor-free. Here are some tips to help deep clean a mattress and which products to use to remove mattress stains yourself.

Make sure to use a professional carpet cleaning company at least once every two years so that your carpet will last for a long time. Here are some of the ways a professional carpet cleaning company will help extend the life of your carpet.

How to deep clean your mattress

Start out by getting rid of the dust

The best and easiest way to remove dust is by using the upholstery tool on your vacuum. We recommend doing this every couple months or maybe every month if someone in the family suffers from allergies.

Go over the top and sides of the mattress and as much of the box spring as you can. Press down firmly on the upholstery tool or tap it to get out the dust beneath the surface. Then, use the crevice vacuum tool to get into the quilting, along the edge and where any pillow top is attached. If you have a newer vacuum, you might have a tool that vibrates against the mattress and upholstery fabrics to better draw out dust.

Use steam to better clean

If you have a garment steamer (if you don’t have a garment steamer we recommend getting one, they are inexpensive and a very useful tool), go over the mattress with the steamer holding the nozzle as close to the fabric as you can (without causing the steamer to drip). When the stem penetrates the mattress it will kill dust mites that are near the surface. Vacuum the mattress after you finish steaming to remove dead dust mites. If you don’t have a steamer and do not want to purchase one the next best option is to give it bursts of steam from your iron.

Remove all the stains

If you have pets and they sleep with you or if you regularly snack in bed, chances are pretty sure your mattress may have some stains. The easiest way to remove stains on your mattress is with a carpet and upholstery cleaner formulated to remove pet stains. A quality stain remover not only removes pet stains, like urine and vomit, but also food stains. A quality stain remover contains enzymes that help to alleviate odors.

When using a quality stain remover, lightly spray the stain — or a cloth — and dab the stain working from the outside edge towards the center so that you will keep the stain from spreading. Avoid over-wetting the mattress so as not to leave behind extra moisture. When the stain is gone, sponge the area you were working on with a damp cloth to rinse and remove all traces of the cleaner. Then you will need to blot the area with a dry cloth and let the mattress dry completely before making the bed.

How to remove yellow stains from your mattress

Yellow stains on your mattress are generally caused by sweat and body oil buildup. While it’s very difficult to clean an entire mattress with water (and you never want to fully saturate a mattress), you can try to whiten yellow stains with a of hydrogen peroxide and warm water (a 50/50 mix – one cup each), then add 1/4 teaspoon mild dish liquid:

Once you have mixed the solution, pour it into a spray bottle and spritz the mattress surface.
Then you should work the solution into the fabric with a soft brush or terry towel and then let it set for about 30 minutes.

After the 30 minutes is up spritz the mattress again with clear water to rinse, then blot well to remove all traces of the cleaner, and after that let it air dry completely. If you have tougher stains, we recommend repeating the process or by adding a little more hydrogen peroxide to the solution.

If you have a “steam” cleaner that dispenses detergent and sucks stains from carpet and upholstery, like GH Seal star, Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner, we would definitely recommend using it on your mattress as well. This tool would do a better job of cleaning and pulling out moisture so the mattress will dry faster.

Hiring a professional office cleaning services company in Santa Barbara is more important than most local business owners might understand. Messy surroundings create a bad impression of your brand to potential clients and any visitor.

It’s not very difficult to keep up with regular cleaning like vacuuming your carpet and spot cleaning stains, but professional carpet cleaning is still very important.

Statistics show that most people spend 60 to 90% of their time indoors, and most of the air is confined within the A/C system, yet very few people are concerned about the air quality in their home or office.

Over time, gout and tiles end up being unclean and also wear down to the extent that they can not just be cleaned by a basic wipe.

One of the best ways to add warmth and style to your home is when your floors are sparkling. Regularly cleaning hardwood floors will make your family happier and should not be intimidating.
